Higgins India Ink was one of the first inks developed under the Higgins brand in the 1880s, while in contrast, Black Magic was developed almost 100 years later. On average, a stick and poke tattoo will last between five and ten years depending on where it is and how it’s been cared for.

Don’t forget to wipe down your skin with rubbing alcohol first to clean it. I find a bottlecap full of this India ink works very well with a twist-top lancet with a small piece of string wrapped tightly around the needle.
It’s nontoxic and can be with a drop or two of alcohol to thin out and sterilize it. Tattoo ink is ideal, but India ink is more easily accessible and just as safe. A non-toxic ink, like India ink, would be your best bet. Ink, like the ink from your pen, is not sterile and can be highly toxic. Use India Ink Do not use just any old ink for your stick and poke.
